Hope for recovery, for you or someone you love
Someone has taken too much? If they are hard to wake or breathing slowly, call emergency now: 112 South Africa, 991 Zambia. More helplines
Scripture for today
It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22–23 · King James Version
These words were written amid ruin and loss, yet they hold on to God’s mercy. A hard day or a setback does not cancel tomorrow’s new mercies.
Strength for today
Struggling with alcohol, drugs or another addiction does not put you beyond God’s reach. Recovery is rarely one big decision made alone. It is usually a road walked one day at a time, with support. Today, consider one step: telling someone you trust, calling a helpline, or finding a support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous or a church recovery group.
Please be careful: stopping alcohol or some medicines, such as sleeping tablets, suddenly can be dangerous. Speak to a doctor or clinic before you stop.
If someone you love is struggling, you cannot carry their recovery for them. Encourage them toward help, protect your own safety, and look for support for yourself too.
A prayer
Father, I bring You this struggle, whether it is mine or that of someone I love. Give courage to ask for help, strength for this one day, and mercy when we stumble. Surround us with people who will walk the road of recovery with us. Amen.
